For mamas who pray

I remember when my little Ev was just days old in my arms. Somewhere in the midst of countless nursing sessions I remember wanting to be intentional in praying over him.

It became a nightly rhythm. After the book was read, after the song had been sung, as I tucked the blankets around his chin, I whispered a prayer - something specific, something intentional.

Soon he grew used to the rhythm and with his little toddler lips he’d remind me - “pray mama!”

And so we would.

I heard a wise mother who has gone before me give an exhortation to pray with intention. She said to pray with who they will one day become in mind. To use your imagination and picture them as a father, a mother, a business owner, a pastor, a leader in the community.

What would you wish for them to be like? Pray it into being while they are still small enough to let you kiss them on the forehead.

I caught the vision. I committed to this.

But I am also a mother who often is full of exhaustion at the end of a long day with littles.

Bedtime routines become mountains to climb, and by the end of it all I am left uninspired and ready to bring the day to a close.

While I kneel next to the little toddler bed the thoughts don’t often flow. Intentions aren’t enough to make it happen. The pictures of the future don’t dance in my mind, inspiring my prayer.

But one morning I read a portion of scripture and realized it was quite a perfect list of things to pray over my children. Scripture serves as the perfect guide for a mother who wishes to pray intentionally.

And that is where this began.

A simple guide, something to tuck in your Bible or put up near your toddlers bed - perhaps by the rocker you spend many hours in.

Something to inspire and direct your prayer - you can find it here.

I pray it is a blessing and a helpful tool in your journey!

Your work matters. Your prayers are heard.

From a fellow mama,

Amanda
