A time to sow

I’ve heard my own mother say it countless times - we do not reap in the same season that we sow.

And now, many years later, it means so much more to me.

I am in the season of sowing little tiny seeds all day long. And to sow a seed is to simultaneously be wiping our brows and mustering up the strength to press forward another day.

This is the season,

Where prayers are spoken over sleepy heads.

Where morning devotions take place ‘round open Bibles.

Where daily conversations take place and I know now how far the words will reach.

This is the season,

Where work projects are crammed into the fragile moments when the baby sleeps.

Where the race to clean the house before the hubby pulls in happens each night.

Where laundry is finished and complete for just 5 minutes before the dryer sounds the finishing alarm.

This is the season,

Where we tidy the home and usher in the guests for another night of prayer.

Where I kiss my hubby goodbye in the morning after praying for the souls he might encounter today.

Where we wonder if we did what is right? Is it all too much? What might others be thinking?

This is the season,

Where we are so very sleep deprived with the baby still up and the toddler whimpering in bed.

Where we are prone to turn on each other instead of fighting for each other.

Where we daily remind each other that the grace we give is the greatest of gifts.

This is the season,

Where we pour ourselves out and hope that we find an eternal treasure at the end of the road.

Where we collapse in bed and say to each other, “We made it once again.”

Where we feel a constant overwhelm of love for the two little faces that look to us with so much adoration.

This is the season,

That we know we will look back on for years to come and say, “Oh had we only treasured it more!”

The time in life that we will spend the rest of our days missing and wishing to relive - even just for a day.

The time when we were deliriously happy, in over our heads and experiencing so much joy mixed up in all of the chaos.

And if you find yourself in this time of life along with me, let me remind you as well - there is a season of reaping a great harvest just around the bend, and you and I will be so glad for the seeds that were sown in this messy bit of life.
